I hate it when people hint like that and expect me to read their mind. I think it is some weird F thing; the logic behind it, as far as I can tell, goes like this: "It's not nice for me to ask for what I want directly. Let me hint at it, and if the person can figure out what I want from that, I know they care about me."
I agree with you on the responses. I think an outright lie like what your teacher suggested is not the polite thing to do; if the truth gets found out, you're in deep trouble. Not a good idea.
I can't stand babies and I am not ashamed to admit it. I'm not sure why I hate them; you would expect a girl to be all ga-ga over them and have maternal instinct. I have anti-maternal instinct.
