I spend at least an hour on them each day, they often run late or (in the case of tonight) randomly don't run at all. For the past few weeks I have not been in a single bus that was not home to at least one bogong moth. And then there's the way that half the time the entire bus stinks of cigarette smoke :( despite the air con. And the way that bussing to uni takes an hour while driving takes 20 minutes (not counting parking time of course).
And yet, for all that, i find travelling on public buses oddly restful. They give me time when i have nothing to do except listen to music or think about stuff. And the stuff is usually of the more random philosophical type. And when i catch them early in the morning (a rarity these days, i admit :p) the ride lets me slowly come out of my early-morning-induced stupor without feeling the need to make conversation with the people i'm travelling with. Mostly, they allow to be alone without feeling lonely.
