In pitch black I have managed to walk into the bottom stairwell post before, it magically moved too ^_~ Our stair posts are thick wooden and have the round ball style thing adorning the top. Said ball thing met up nicely with my nose and resulted in it bleeding. I'm now very cautious when I have to go upstairs in the dark and stick my hand out in case the post moves again lol.
