Alex: Yeh I've been spending really liberally this week.
Me: As opposed to spending labourly?

In other news I totally voted for the horse riding/outdoor recreation party

Oh you're not missing too much :P I get the feeling that you and I would enjoy swapping books/courses. My course is called Social Contexts and so far we've learnt about English imperialism, how languages die, English as an international language... its all very interesting but not quite up my alley. But on the other hand I get to give a presentation about second language acquisition as part of the course so it's not all bad :)

re:Facebook, yeh, a lot of people have said similar things to me. But the real question is: Do I have time to add Facebook to my current blogging and MSN?

I would very much enjoy taking your courses - but if by swapping you mean stop taking mine, then never! There's something better than linguistics, in my opinion, and that's studying the languages themselves. I think you'd really enjoy clocking up a few ancient ones: ever thought of giving it a bash? I might recommend Aramaic, but that's just because it's not hard for anyone who has even a bit of Hebrew, and the literature in Aramaic is just so much fun.

Sydney Uni should pay me commission, considering all the people to whom I recommend their courses...
