Break it into small things so that it isn't a "chore". Instead of "reading a nonfiction book", pick it up and check out a chapter. Instead of "teaching yourself more programming", look up a single command and fool with it and think of ways it could be applied, or choose one small thing you want to do and look up how to do it.
